QC session (2/9/16)

Christine shared her experiences in her part-time job manning (womanning?) a service counter and noted how some individuals would completely ignore her while paying much more attention to their business associates. I was reminded of how James in James 2:1-10 mentions a similar situation in church and tells us how we have made distinctions (i.e. created differences of value where God has assigned none) and become "judges with evil thoughts" (i.e. assigned values to others with a view to obtaining profit from an association with them). So the way we treat the lowest and least in society does reflect our Christlikeness more truly than our attitude to those who are in a position to benefit us.

Selwyn also shared his experience with disabled people who were so happy with simple things like being fed mouthful by mouthful. We have so much to be grateful for because simply because we are normal, but we are often discontent with our small difficulties.

Eugene mentioned how someone from the Evangelism Explosion session asked him if he spoke in tongues.1 Co 12-14 would be the clearest chapters in the Bible on this topic. Paul does encourage all to speak in tongues (14:1, 5, 18). So tongues is a good thing that can be used for personal edification (14:4). We should not be reluctant to pray for good gifts. However, not all speak in tongues (12:30), and tongues without interpretation cannot edify the church as large the same way as prophecy does (14:1-5), which makes the latter 'greater'.
